Mont Blanc ALERT - Gouter route Closed

Just to let you know there has been a large scale rockfall below the Gouter Hut on Wednesday and as a result the 'Gouter' Route to Mont Blanc is closed for the near future.

Well now they call me the breeze, I keep rollin down the road

This week has been far from a breeze folks, in fact it’s been hotter than a rattlesnake’s tail in a forest fire.

Sunday: Found Andy, Gwen, Mike, Chris, Robin Beadle and myself along with the masses heading for the Albert Prem hut. Still no sign of the new build, apparently it’s supposed to start next year now…….We wait with bated breath.

Ok folks here it is, for what its worth. My Oh My, to quote the great Captain Beefheart , what a week. It’s been a constant battle with the weather, and I have to say the weather did sort of win, but only just.


Aiguille Verte and the Dru on Tuesday 17th

Chamonix Update 5th August - Changeable Conditions

Greetings and salutations fellow humans.

Yes I know it’s been a few days since I last reported in, so I have a lot of catching up to do. Here goes.

Conditions are changing quite quickly out here. We seem to be having a day of good weather then a day of bad, with snow down to 2500 this week and the freezing level is around 3500 to 3900. Valley temps have been averaging 25 c but colder on some days.

Mont Blanc  Week. 27th June – 2nd July.

Greetings one and all, another week in the valley. This week saw me preparing clients for Mont Blanc, working on their acclimatisation and then guiding them to the summit.

The weather system which brought the flash floods to the French Riviera a couple of weeks ago also brought a huge dump of snow to the Alps. The floods subsided pretty quickly but most of the fresh snow is still here in the Chamonix Valley, which is great news for lots of routes.
