Week 22nd  - 30th August.

Vic on the Midi Plan Traverse

Well folks I’ve donned my wellies and wet suit this week. Marty Pellow springs to mind, you will have to google that one if you don’t know who he is, then it may make sense…………

Any road up me merry prankster’s here it is another soggy action packed, thrill a minute, laugh a second, stunt filled week in the Chamonix valley.

It really has been a bit of a wash out this week so far, Monday 23rd rained most of the day, snow down to 3700.

Tuesday, was more of the same.

Wednesday was clear sunny, warm, valley cragging day.

Thursday sunny, hot, light breeze, did the Traverse of the Crochues, very quiet only 2 other teams on it, usual descent back down to Lac Blanc, not so much snow left now so the lower half is through the boulder fields.

Friday and Saturday complete wash out, as it rained yet again most of the day, think I’m getting webbed feet.

Midi Plan Traverse

Sunday 29th August dawned bright and sunny, shock horror!!!! So we went to do the Midi Plan Traverse.  It was in great condition, very exposed on the snow arête leading to the Col Du Plan; then straight forward but still exposed mixed ground, which you may want to pitch, especially if you are returning the same way. This then leads up to the Rognon Du Plan which, due to time constraints, is where we decided to turn round and make our way back to the Midi.

Vic at Rognon du Plan

Monday 30th August, Rained again, with snow down to 1700 metres.

We are rock climbing over the next few days, up to the Brevent on Wednesday to do the Frichon Roche route, then Friday weather permitting we intend to do Mont Blanc Du Tacul.

The following routes have been done over the past week, but not a lot else to report.

26th August Cassin Route on the Piz Badile, reported to be in good condition, especially in the upper section/cracks which can get icy.

26th August Traverse of the Dru, again reported to be in good condition.

As per folks the weather is doing its thing, for the rest of the week here it’s due to improve , but be cooler than usual for this time of year. I would say the autumn could be very good out here on the mixed routes, due to the snow we have had and the cold temps. So keep an eye on that forecast, do your homework and be safe.

I have about 10 more days left out here, last course is a Mont Blanc course so will keep you all posted.
